Family History Research and stillbirths?

Can anybody tell me when stillbirths started to be recorded/registered in the UK? Thanks

Stillbirths are registered in the stillbirths register (since 1927).
This register is not available to search but requests can be made by the parents or brother or sister if the parents are dead. See http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/stillbirths/index.asp

It is also possible for others to request a stillbirth certificate at the discretion of the Registrar General. Prior to 1927 it is sometimes possible to locate stillbirths in burial registers.

As the infant has not been born or died he/she is not registered on the births or deaths register.

FYI this is true in the USA, too. They is a separate registration for called “Record of Fetal Death” that is used and is index separately from othe birth and death indexes.
