Posted in Uncategorized | Comments OffAnyone else had problems activating the 12 month subscription to Ancestry.com that comes with FamilyTreeMaker?
I have bought and paid for the ($90) Family Tree Maker 2008 software; Platinum Canadian edition. This comes with a 12 month Deluxe Canadian subscription to Ancestry.ca. Once you register the software it takes you to a page where you activate the subscription. I get the following message:
“Sorry, something didn’t work correctly processing your order”
Has anyone else encountered this and had the problem positively rectified? ’cause right now I’m really pissed… $90 pissed! It’s too late to call Ancestry.ca and I have to sit on this problem for another 20 hours, when I can call after work tomorrow.
It smells like a scam.
I haven’t signed up for the subscription but I guarantee you that the company is not a scam. You can go to wikipedia and read all about the company if you want. It is the largest private genealogy company in the world, with several different ‘brands’ to it’s name.
Just take 10 deep breaths and relax. I’m sure you can work it out tomorrow.
In the meantime, there are several resources on the internet that are FREE and are worth looking at.
You might try http://www.cyndislist.com which gives you an online catalogue of various genealogy sites. This site has organized links to every important genealogy source available.
You might try http://www.familysearch.org which is an online database from the mormon church in Salt Lake City.
You might try http://www.rootsweb.com which is a free user created database.
(I’ve got 4 rootsweb windows open right now. LOL!
I’m comparing databases various people have submitted.)

A Note about signing up on Ancestry.ca
When you sign up online, most companies require you to give them an email address so that you can confirm that your order went through.
Did you get a confirmation email?
If not, then the order probably wasn’t processed. This might give you some time to reconsider your purchase.
